Investor Type

Advice for Wholesale and Sophisticated Clients

The legal framework for financial advice in Australia makes a clear distinction between retail and wholesale clients. Wholesale clients are generally investors who meet prescribed asset or income thresholds and, where appropriate, we may also assess whether a client is genuinely sophisticated beyond these thresholds and considered to have the financial sophistication to understand and assess more complex wealth and investment strategies. Where a client is classified as wholesale or sophisticated investors, they may gain access to a broader range of investment opportunities, structures and products, along with a more streamlined advice and documentation process.

It is important to understand that this classification results in reduced regulatory disclosure requirements and fewer statutory protections compared to retail clients, and this distinction is carefully considered at the outset of our engagement.

Advice for Retail Clients

For retail clients, the regulatory framework requires a higher level of prescribed disclosures, including standardised documentation designed to enhance transparency and consumer protection. As a result, the advice process for retail clients is more structured and governed by formal requirements.

If you choose to proceed as a retail client, certain legal documents must be issued to you in a prescribed format. These set out the basis for our advice, the risks, the cost of implementation, the benefits we receive and any conflicts of interests.

Associations & partnerships

Services delivered with partners

Managed Discretionary Account (MDA) Service

Your adviser may recommend that you invest in a Managed Discretionary Account service. Gatekeeper 77 and its representatives are authorised to provide this service through Mason Stevens Limited (ABN 91 141 447 207, AFSL 351578). If this service is appropriate for you, you will be provided with a separate Financial Services Guide issued by Mason Stevens and an investment mandate outlining the arrangement.

Property Advocacy

If we refer you to a property advocate, we may be paid a fee of up to 20% of the property advocate's fees to cover the cost of our involvement in facilitating a smooth transaction on your behalf. This is not an additional cost to you and is only received if you transact with the property advocate.

Your adviser does not provide real estate or property advice; you will need to make your own decisions regarding the appropriateness of the property.
